Each case below follows the same structure so the technical decision is easy to evaluate. Photography, where shown, documents equipment, size, class and technique only.

Hot Tapping / Line Stopping

36 in. Hot Tap & Line Stop

Hot tap and line stop on a live crude-oil transfer line at an offshore Gulf repump station, holding isolation through the repair window without taking the transfer system down.

Representative professional experience — performed by ES&C leadership prior to founding ES&C, while employed by another service provider. Not an ES&C contract.

Challenge
A crude-oil transfer line at an offshore Gulf repump station required work that normally means draining and depressurizing the system — an outage the transfer duty could not absorb.
Scope
Fitting review and installation, hot tap either side of the work area, line stop isolation for the duration of the repair window, then completion and plugging of the fittings.
Execution
Tapping machine and line stop housings were rigged in place with the system in service. The full-diameter coupon was retained on the pilot cutter and recovered intact, then stopping heads were set and isolation held while the work proceeded.
Technical result
Isolation was maintained across the full work window on the live 36 in. crude line and the transfer system returned to service without an unplanned shutdown.

Hot Tapping

8 in. Hot Tap on a Live Natural-Gas Line

An 8 in. hot tap performed on a live natural-gas line, allowing a new tie-in to be established while the line stayed in service.

Challenge
A new connection was needed on a natural-gas line that could not be taken out of service, with the tap location only reachable from above.
Scope
Fitting and valve installation, pressure test, vertical hot tap through the full-port valve, coupon recovery and machine removal.
Execution
The tapping machine was rigged vertically from a boom lift and advanced under controlled feed with the line live, monitoring pressure throughout the cut.
Technical result
The 8 in. coupon was recovered intact in the pilot cutter and a finished branch connection was left in service with no interruption to gas flow.

8 in. Class 600 Cryogenic PSV — Gasket Surface Repair

A new 8 in. Class 600 cryogenic PSV required gasket-surface correction ahead of scheduled testing the following morning. ES&C mobilized portable field-machining equipment to the site and resurfaced the gasket sealing area as required, supporting the customer's time-critical test schedule.

Challenge
A new 8 in. Class 600 cryogenic pressure safety valve had a gasket sealing surface that was not acceptable for service, and the valve was scheduled for testing the following morning — leaving no time to route the component through a shop.
Scope
Same-day mobilization with portable field-machining equipment, set-up on the valve, and resurfacing of the gasket sealing area as required so the valve could proceed toward its scheduled testing.
Execution
The portable machining equipment was mounted and indicated to the valve, and the gasket sealing surface was machined in place with cut depth controlled to address the unacceptable condition only.
Technical result
The gasket sealing surface was resurfaced in the field overnight and the valve was released back to the customer in time for the scheduled morning test, avoiding shop turnaround and schedule loss.

Pressure Drum Repair

Field repair of a pressure drum: field machining equipment mounted in place to resurface the gasket sealing area and return the vessel to service.

Challenge
A pressure drum had a degraded gasket surface that would not hold a seal, with shipment of the vessel to a machine shop ruled out on cost and schedule.
Scope
Mounting of portable flange facing equipment in place, machining of the vessel gasket sealing area, and verification of surface condition and finish.
Execution
A portable flange facing machine was mounted directly to the vessel and the facing head tracked the gasket surface across the full bolt circle, with cut depth controlled to remove damage only.
Technical result
The gasket sealing area was resurfaced in place to a uniform, seal-ready finish with machining values recorded, and the drum was returned to service.

Field Machining / Valve Work

20 in. Class 150 Gate Valve

Gate-valve work on a 20 in. Class 150 system, including flange facing, seat condition assessment and reassembly.

Challenge
A 20 in. Class 150 gate valve needed its gasket surface and seat addressed, but sending the valve out would have extended the outage well past the available window.
Scope
In-place set-up on skids, flange facing of the valve body gasket surface, seat condition assessment and seat restoration, then reassembly.
Execution
A portable facing machine was mounted to the valve body and the feed screw and rotating arm tracked the gasket face while the seat was assessed and restored.
Technical result
Gasket surface and seat were returned to serviceable condition without shipping the valve out, keeping the outage inside its planned duration.

API 610 VS1 Vertical Turbine Pump / Sump Can Correction

In-place machining of the top mounting surface of an API 610 VS1 vertical turbine pump sump can, found 0.125 in. out of level to the world.

Challenge
The sump can / pump mounting surface of an API 610 VS1 vertical turbine pump arrangement was found 0.125 in. out of level to the world, and the can could not be removed for shop repair.
Scope
Mount and indicate a portable facing machine on the sump can and machine the top mounting surface in place to restore the required level condition for the vertical turbine pump.
Execution
The facing machine was set directly on the sump can and the cut was taken across the top mounting surface, correcting the measured out-of-level condition without removing the can.
Technical result
The sump can mounting surface was found 0.125 in. out of level to the world. Field machining was performed on the top mounting surface of the sump can to correct the mounting condition and support proper alignment of the API 610 VS1 vertical turbine pump.

Field Machining — Valve Seats

In-place valve seat machining on large-bore marine engine cylinder heads, recovering sealing performance without replacing the seat inserts.

Challenge
Large-bore marine engine cylinder heads had worn valve seats, and replacing the inserts would have meant longer downtime and greater cost than the condition warranted.
Scope
Set-up over the cylinder head, indication off the valve guide bore, machining of seat angles and counterbores, then seat checks against specification.
Execution
A portable machining unit was indicated off the guide bore so seat angles and counterbores were cut concentric to the guide, with dial indicator and gauges used to verify each seat.
Technical result
Seats were returned to specification with the original inserts retained, restoring sealing performance on the heads.

Field Machining

Sandwich-Valve Machining

Machining of sandwich-valve sealing faces to restore fit and function within an existing piping arrangement.

Challenge
Sandwich-valve sealing faces had lost fit within a fixed piping arrangement that offered very little working clearance and no room to change the layout.
Scope
Access assessment, tooling selection for the confined set-up, machining of the sealing faces and verification of fit on reassembly.
Execution
Compact portable tooling was set up within the available clearance and the sealing faces were machined without disturbing the surrounding spool arrangement.
Technical result
Fit and sealing function were restored inside the existing arrangement, avoiding a piping modification.

ALCO V16 Marine-Engine Coating

Surface preparation and a multi-coat protective system applied to an ALCO V16 marine engine for corrosion protection in a marine environment.

Challenge
An ALCO V16 marine engine required corrosion protection without coating sealing faces, instrumentation or fasteners that had to stay clean for reassembly.
Scope
Full surface preparation, masking of sealing faces, instrumentation and fasteners, then primer and topcoat across the engine banks.
Execution
Cylinder head covers and valve gear were masked before preparation, and the engine was coated on its transport frame with primer and finish coat applied bank by bank.
Technical result
